It’s not uncommon for people to call and ask a very basic question: How do I figure out how much debt I’m in?
The National Student Loan Data System makes it easy for federal loan borrowers. You’ll need:
- Your social security number
- The first two letters of your last name
- Date of birth
- and PIN# (Note: If you can’t remember your PIN# go to: http://www.pin.ed.gov/ to request a duplicate).
This site will tell you:
- Type of Loan
- Loan Amount
- Loan Date
- Disbursed Amount
- Canceled Amount
- Outstanding Principal
- and Outstanding Interest
Remember private student loans will not be included.
